Read The Bible, On The Regular!

Okay, I’ll share with you a secret.

I sometimes go a day without reading the Bible.

Yep, I said it.

*Cues the dramatic music*

Go ahead and judge ya girl!

It’s totally fine and it’s not like I can see your facial expressions. 😃

I’m sharing this with you today because lately I’ve been getting flooded with people saying, “BG, it’s really hard for me to read my Bible.”

And, I get it!

It’s not like on those days I am super busy.

Other than being at work, I am usually at home in the guest room.

I am not one of those people who go out a lot.

I don’t watch much tv.

I’m either writing or creating content.

My Bible literally sits within an arm-length reach from me on the nightstand and I’ll say, out loud, “I will read you in five minutes.”

Well, those five minutes will turn into 20, 60, until it’s a new day!

Now, I know what you may be thinking, “Well, why don’t you set an alarm to read the Bible?”

Yeah, I’m way ahead of you, Honey Bunches!

Throughout my day, I receive the Bible App notifications to read the “Verse of The Day” or I get reminders to read the Devo I’ve chosen to subscribe.

I’ll simply look at the verse or silence the messages with pure intentions to go back and read.

You see, when I say read the Bible I mean really digging deep into the words I’m reading.

And, asking God to give me a better understanding.

Some times it won’t be until the next morning when I’m like, ” Oh crap, I didn’t read the Bible yesterday!”

In a world where we have so much access, there are times we may find ourselves missing a day without reading God’s word.

Today, my goal is for us to do the following:

1. Acknowledge What’s Stopping Us From Daily Devotion

2. Create A Time For Us To Read The Bible

3. Stick To The Time To Read…And Well Read!

Bible reading is the antidote to life.

My introduction to reading the Bible came from my mom. Every week, she would have me to give her a Sunday school lesson summary.

I would have to read my Sunday school lesson, write my thoughts of the lesson on a sheet of paper, and make sure I put it on her dresser to review. As a kid, I didn’t like it!

Any time I would open the Bible to read I found myself falling asleep within minutes. I had no interest. I felt what I was reading didn’t relate to me.

When would I ever slay a giant?

I lived in Oklahoma how could I find myself in a lion’s den?

Who would ever pick me to be the queen of the US?

Though I was reading the words and writing down the main points, the message wasn’t penetrating my heart. As I grew early in my adulthood, I would read the Bible to make sure I was completing the chore in order to be holy.

I didn’t want to go to hell, so I thought just flipping through the pages was my ticket to escaping that fearful fate! Even that approach pushed me away from wanting to ever read the Bible again.

When I am not reading God’s word, my mind will some times go back to this mindset. I’ll have thoughts such as:

“Let me just open the Bible app and read this verse.”

“I’ll have time in the morning.”

“I don’t want God mad at me. Let me just read.”

If you too ever felt this way, I want you to know:

Reading the Bible is more than just cracking open a book and reading a story; it’s God’s love story to us to help encourage, guide and strengthen our journey through life!

I’ll explain my theory and leave you with a question.

Let’s go! 😉

What would happen if we called our mom’s just for her to pick up only to hang up the moment she answers. Our moms would be hurt because we didn’t give them the opportunity to speak.

What if that’s how God feels every time we open the Bible app only to check the verse of the day?

With 24 hours in a day, I believe we will create and be more intentional in reading His word. Let’s start today!

Faith Nuggets!

When we read our Bible, it’s God’s opportunity to speak to us through His word.

Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing and hearing through the word of God.”

The more we are in tune with God’s word our faith becomes stronger.

Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe according to all that is written therein: For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.”

“The Bible is basic instructions before leaving earth.”
